Needle of the Pines

Updated: Feb 18

Weapon Ammunition (any arrow or bolt), Rare

The tips of this magic arrow are composed of enchanted pine needles. Often gifted from a Maple Elemental to whom a favor or agreement has been promised, this weapon is infused with the essence of nature and the maple elemental's power. This ammunition vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target.

When you hit with an attack roll using this magical ammunition, the target takes an extra 1d6 poison damage as the sugary magic of the elemental courses through the target's blood and they become Sugar High for the next minute.

  • Sugar High creatures make a Constitution save with a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your dexterity modifier to avoid taking 1d6 poison damage at the start of each of their turns. Their exhaustion is increased by one level for every failure after the second.

A creature cannot suffer from more than one Sugar High effect at a time and becomes immune from the effect for 24 hours after recovering from it.

When a creature dies while Sugar High -- or within 1 minute after recovering from it -- if they fall upon a surface capable of supporting plant life, a tree that is 20 ft. tall by 5 ft. wide erupts from their body and roots itself to the space the creature once occupied.

Any creature within 10 ft. when this happens makes a DC 13 dexterity save or is caught among the tree's branches, launched upwards, and then falls 20 ft. at the start of their next turn -- landing prone. Creature's that succeed on this save are launched upwards and fall 10 ft at the start of their next turn and do not land prone.
